The community-voted Steam Awards have wrapped up for 2020, with winners announced in all 10 categories. Taking out the top spot for the year is Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2–despite originally releasing in 2018, it came to Steam in December 2019, thus narrowly qualifying for the 2020 awards.
All games that released on Steam after November of 2019 were eligible for most of the 2020 awards, even if they were ports of games that released on other platforms years earlier–which means a lot of Steam’s winners for 2020 aren’t what most people would consider 2020 games.
Some winners that actually released in 2020 include Ori and the Will of the Wisps, which won for Outstanding Visual Style, Doom Eternal, which took home the Best Soundtrack award, and Fall Guys, acknowledged for the Better With Friends award. Death Stranding, which won Most Innovative Gameplay, was just on the cusp of being eligible for the awards with its November 2019 release.
